Gaiters golf squad opens season
The Bishop’s Gaiters golf squad opens their 2013 RSEQ University season on Monday at the Chicoutimi Golf Club. The Gaiters will be one of three universities to boast both a men’s and women’s team. The UQAC Invitational tournament they will be competing in takes place on August 26 and 27.
The Gaiters men will have three returners in 2013. James Roberts (Montreal) was last season’s team MVP and is back for his final year. Scott Latter (Toronto) and Jason Hines-Duncliffe (Mississauga, Ont.) also return and will look to use their experience to their advantage. New team members Alex Jacques (St. Pie, Que.) is a former Laval Rouge et Or player and was the low player in qualifying. Rounding out the five team members is Will Lortie (Sept-Iles, Que.). Spencer Richmond (Perth, Ont.) will gain experience by wearing the Gaiters colours but competing as an individual.
On the women’s side 2012 MVP Shannon Lee Greenshields (Pincourt, Que.) is back for her sophomore season and is joined by returners Lindsay Reid (Montreal) and Jaymie Tucker (Victoria, B.C.). Rounding out the women’s squad is first year team member Carolyn Gagnon (Mississauga, Ont.).
“We are very optimistic this year,” said coach Ashley Conn. “We have a different team and a different mindset heading into season. I expect us to be a lot more competitive. All three of us coaches are very excited.”
